During the charge process the Equalizer monitors the individual series-connected LiPo cells in the pack and automatically brings them to the same voltage level. This is necessary because the individual cells vary slightly in their state of charge, or voltage level, when they are discharged. Overcharging or deep-discharging LiPo batteries causes permanent cell damage.
The parameters for final charge voltage and charge current are set on the charger. In contrast to the familiar voltage controllers, the Equalizer starts correcting voltage differences as soon as the charge process starts.
Over-voltage cut-off:
The units feature a special safety function in the form of an excess voltage cut-off circuit which stops the charge process as soon as one cell reaches 4.3 Volts. All the cells wired together in series must be connected to the TOP Equalizer via a sensor lead; this is necessary for voltage measurement. Current ready-made robbe LiPo batteries are fitted with the appropriate connector as standard. The voltage sensor leads required are also available separately, allowing existing LiPo batteries to be upgraded as required.
